Kent Stainless Steel Football update

Last week saw a number of finals played in the Kent Stainless Steel Under 10 Football competition.

The New Ross district completed its programme of games with the A final between Horeswood and Gusserane taking place on Wednesday evening in Horeswood. Both teams were evenly matched with the sides level at half time. Horeswood pulled away in the second half however to deservedly secure the top prize in the district on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-3. Patricia Foran from the Gusserane club presented the cup to the elated Horeswood team.
Then on Saturday there was a feast of football in Tom Somers Park in Gusserane when the second teams of Horeswood, Gusserane, Taghmon Camross and Rathgarogue Cushinstown competed in a blitz where the John Flynn Memorial Cup was up for grabs. Gusserane and Cushinstown qualified to play in the final and it was the youngsters from Cushinstown who proved too strong in the thrilling contest and they received the cup from Dick Flynn.
Three of the Enniscorthy District finals were also played last week in Bree in front of massive crowds. The A title went to Starlights over Ballyhogue on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-2 where the quality of football was of a very high standard. The B final was won by Bunclody as they proved too strong for a determined Duffry Rovers team. The D final was won by Ferns as they saw off Marshalstown. James Mullally from the Gusserane club was on hand to present the cups to the winning captains. The remaining final sees Davidstown Courtnacuddy take on Cloughbawn at a date to be decided.
