Disappointment as champions go out

Wexford’s u-21 footballers are out of the Leinster football championship after a hard fought clash with a star studded Dublin side, going down on a scoreline of Wexford 1-09 to Dublin 1-12.

Wexford started well following an O’Regan goal but Dublin edged ahead as half time approached and then on the stroke of half time, disaster struck, when Dublin were awared a penalty which they scored leaving the half time score as Wexford 1-02 to Dublin 1-07.

Wexford, who made a virtue of second half revivals in 2011, didn’t disappoint running riot in the opening quarter of the second half and with 10 minutes remaining they’d closed the gap, the sides were level! However it was Dublin who ended the game stronger and responded to Wexford’s challange well with four points to Wexford’s one in the closing minutes, to finish with a three point victory .

Dublin march on to face Laois at home in Parnell Park, while 2011 champions Wexford are out.
