Turf Cutters Trail walk a huge success

Thanks to all that participated in the Walk on Monday.

 We had over 400 people both experienced hill walkers and beginners enjoying the wonderful scenery on a challenging walk on Black Rock Mountain along The Turf Cutters Trail. The views were spectacular and we were lucky enough on the day to be able to clearly see the coastline of Wales with the naked eye and Fishguard Port using binoculars.

Everyone arrived home safely which is very important when large crowds take to the mountains.

For many people it was their first time to experience our local mountains The Blackstairs, on foot and revealed to many a hidden treasure right on their doorstep. Many said they would return again to repeat the experience with family and friends.

Our thanks to all the people that helped make the walk such a succcess, especially the Murphy Family from The Half Way House Pub and Ted Quinn who entertained us with song on our decent.

Members of Wexford Civil Defence who provided first aid cover on the day,

Coilte for allowing access to their lands especially Declan Doyle and Jesper Peterson;

The Stewards from Wexford Park under Event Manager Michael Kinsella and Chief Steward Dave Ormonde;

Bunclody mountain Bike and Triathlon Club Racing 795 members David Conway and Barry Byrne;

Bunclody Clody Loafers Hill Walking Club who acted as leaders and route guides;

Tom Doyle Tiles Camolin and Candy’s Service Stations;

Lodgewood Engineering,

Ciaran Maher for his quad bikes;

Arthur Quinn, Ben Bernie and Rory Murphy of the Wexford Supporters,

And of course Alan Maguire and Liam Dwyer of South East Radio for their sponsorship of this event.

Special thanks goes to Damien Fitzhenry for leading the walk and giving fitness guidance on air in the build up to the walk.

The proceeds will go for underage GAA coaching and The County Wexford Community Wotrkshop in Enniscorthy.

We hope to have a final figure soon and anyone who has not yet handed in their sponsorship cards or donations can do so to Ben Bernie in Kilcannon Garden Centre or lodge it directly to Co Wexford Community Workshop Fundraising account at Bank Of Ireland Enniscorthy.
