Buggy and Lambert grab wins in second week of senior action.
Gavin Buggy and Paul Lambert both had wins last week in the county senior singles championships. Buggy now playing with St Joseph’s was given a good work out before he eventually beat Jason Murphy from Castlebridge on a 21-17, 21-19 score line. Meanwhile Lambert who was beaten in his first game of the tournament eventually overcame Miley Connors from Barntown on a 21-14, 9-21, 21-18 to secure his first points of the tournament.
Micheal Busher from Bridgetown overcame Michael O’Neill from Templeudigan in three sets last week after losing the first set Busher recovered his game well enough to overcome O’Neill 17-21, 21-11, 21-7.
The opening round of the junior doubles saw Tommy Armstrong and Padhraic Roberts from recently reformed Kilmyshall pulling out a fine win over Keith and Alan Armstrong from Davidstown with a 21016, 19-21, 21-14 winning margin.
Kevin Doyle got some revenge for Davidstown as the same clubs clashed again in junior B singles and it James Nolan from Kilmyshall who was the victim 21-15, 21-14 to Doyle.
The Junior C singles championships were in full gear last week with four games being played. Sean Flood from St Joseph’s got the better of Sean O’Neill from Templeudigan 21-12, 18-21, 21-8. Dermot Flynn pulled out a better result for Templeudigan as he defeated Mick Carty from St Joseph’s 21-18, 21-10.Paddy Cheever’s won a very entertaining game defeating Tomas O’Se from Davidstown , as the Horeswood man had the better shots in the end on a 21-9, 14-21, 21-9 result. James Nolan from Kilmyshall also progressed to the next round of the Junior C singles with a 21-11, 21-4 win over Tom Dempsey from Ballyhogue.
The Lacey brothers from St Joseph’s had a fine win in the opening round of the junior c doubles defeating Alan Armstrong and James Greene from Davidstown on a 21-14 , 21-10 score line while following them into the next round are Nicky Barnes and Fintan Furlong from St Mary’s as they overcame Timmy Farrell and Tomas Murphy from Kilmyshall on a 21-19, 21-9 score line.
Tommy Murphy from Kilmyshall advanced in the Junior D singles by defeating Seamie O’Neill from Ballymitty, while also through in the same grade is Richard Flynn from Templeudigan as he was too strong for Eamon Codd from Bridgetown.
Richie Culleton from St Joseph’s got the better of his former doubles companion Fintan Doyle from Barntown on a 21-17, 18-21, 21-10 score line in a pulsating Golden Masters A singles game.
In the Golden Masters B singles Tom Byrne got the better of Eamon Bowe from Davidstown in another three set game as the Kilmyshall man was a 13-21, 21-11, 21-18 winner.
There was plenty of exciting games in the women’s Junior singles last weekend and Holly Hynes got two wins on the board as the St Mary’s talented youth beat Roisin Walsh (St Joseph’s) 21-3, 21-4 and also came from a set down to beat Amanda Kelly from Templeudigan 16-21, 21-7, 21-4.
Tanya O’Toole also came from behind to see off Anne Boland from Templeudigan on a 20-21, 21-5, 21-7 score line while Marguerite Gore ( St Mary’s) showed her favourites tag by defeating Chloe Cashe from St Joseph’s 21-8, 21-11. Michelle Boland from Templeudigan got a win under her belt this week also as she beat Roisin Walsh (ST Joseph’s) on a 21-20, 21-15 score line. In the ladies junior B singles Olivia Sweeny had a fine win defeating her St Joseph’s club mate Julie Kearny 21-6, 21-5.
