Wexford GAA toady (April 24th) sold almost 26 acres of land adjoining their center of excellence at Ferns.
The auction was organised by David Quinn Auctioneer.
The auction was very hectic with bidders pushing up the price for a total of €405,000.
The auction was given the go ahead by Wexford GAA County Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night April 23rd.
The meeting had heard a letter from former County Chairman Ger Doyle, who is a trustee of the land at Ferns. In the letter Mr Doyle had objected to the sale of the land but a vote taken at the meeting showed unanimous backing for the sale to go ahead.
The money raised will pay off the pay off the balance owed on Wexford Park with the surplus going to reducing the remaining debt on the purchase of the land at Ferns.
This will ease the pressure on the general finances of Wexford GAA over the coming years.
