Lawler’s bet on Alley Poker Classic
Lawler’s Take Away and Christmas Centre Morriscastle have kindly come in as main sponsor for this year’s Poker Classic.
This year’s Poker Classic will be on Friday 27th December at 8pm in the New Buffers Alley Clubhouse. Tickets, priced at 20 euro, are now on sale from club members. This event is being run in tandem with the Strictly Club Dancing fundraisers for the various couples and your support is very much appreciated. The New Clubhouse is up and running now and this is a great opportunity to view the spectacular function room and bar.
There is guaranteed prize money of €1000 but we would expect to match if not exceed last year’s prize fund of €1400 especially that the event now has a main sponsor in Lawler’s of Morriscastle. It will be ordinary 5 card draw poker and there will also be prizes for the first Poker, Straight Flush and Royal Flush. Buy backs and top ups will again be in operation. The bar will also be running promotions for card players on the night and there will be refreshments served during the half time interval.
Hammels Centra of Kilmuckridge have kindly sponsored a Door Prize.
Matty Foley emerged from almost eighty players to claim the top spot in last year’s poker classic. All the players on the final table were evenly matched however a run of winning hands ensured that Matty powered to victory. However the final placings were always in doubt, with the final hand pushing Frances Sinnott into second place. All the finalists received cash prizes plus complimentary admission to this years’ classic. The final positions were as follows 1. Matty Foley 2. Frances Sinnott 3. Richard Johnson 4. Cormac Foley 5.Tony Sutton 6. Stephen Kirwan. In all nearly €1400 in prizes was given out on the night. This was Cormac Foleys third year in a row to make the final table. Jimmy Kennedy Snr. also was a prize winner with the first Poker but surprisingly there was no Straight Flush or Royal Flush on the night.
