Wexford Players make GAA History
3 Wexford players , Simon Wallace St James, Greg Jacob Davidstown – Courtnacuddy and Joseph Sheehan Clonard, made GAA history last Saturday when lining out for Lancashire in their 1st round match of this year’s Lory Meagher All Ireland hurling competition.
It was the first time that Lancashire had fielded a hurling team in a National GAA competition, their participation in the competition reflects the growing strength of GAA in Great Britain and follows on from the appearances of 3 clubs from Great Britain , Fullen Gaels Manchester ( Hurling ) John Mitchels ( Liverpool) and Kilburn Gaels ( London ) in All Ireland club finals in Croke Park last February.
Unfortunately Lancashire did not mark their debut with a win as they were beaten by Fermanagh 2.16 to 3.09, they play their second round game next Saturday in Ballinamore when they travel to play home county Leitrim.
