Wexford GAA Convention 2015 – 15th December

Co Secretary’s report adopted unanimously.

All subcommittee reports adopted. Now starting financial report with Treasurer Andrew Nolan.

Questions from the floor on financial report will be answered by treasurer and auditor.

Increase in surplus due to development grant for Centre of Excellence from Croke Park.

All unopposed returned by convention. Vacancy at Development Officer as ger Carthy stepping down

Audited accounts adopted and chairman thanks Rory Quarley auditor for his work with the county board.

Chairman read his report into the convention record.

Chairman tells delegates the Nickey Rackard’s All Ireland medal from 1955 will be presented to Wexford GAA during National Hurling League.

Chairman outlines 3 options to tackle cash flow issue.

1. hope for better 2016-17.

  1. Consolidate debt into long-term loan.

3. Slash costs and attempt to raise income.

Decision at January meeting of the Co. Board.

This is the last step in the reorganisation of county finances first brought to light in 2012. All others successful tackled.

Chairman: development squads, colleges and coaching now on sound footing and major progress has been made in both codes… Be patient. Success will follow.

Presentation is made to outgoing Development Officer Ger Carthy who is stepping down from the position

Cathal Byrne of Ballyhogue is elected as the new Development Officer. He thanks his Club for nominating him for the position.


Motion 1: Complex motion on the inter club transfers in Wexford town has been proposed by Coiste Bainisti. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion 2: Horeswood proposing motion 2 that regrading to be determined by first game they play in league section of championship. Seconded by Oulart.

Motion 2 is carried.

Motion carried and will go forward to Leinster convention.

Motion 5 HWH-Bunclody propose that minor captain be allowed make speech after Cup presentation for All Ireland final.

Motion 5 is carried and will be sent to All Ireland Congress

Motion 6 is withdrawn by Adamstown .

Motion 7 that Club county board delegate serve a maximum of 5 years.

Motion 7 is carried.  That motion takes effect from now. So first retirements not for 5 years.

Motion 8 Realt Na Mara is defeated. That rest period of 48 hours be introduced for all players.

Motion 9 that Co passes for club players and officials in local chship be replaced by Clubs issuing pre-stamped passes themselves to max 35

Motion 9 defeated.

Motion 10: Grading teams in All Ireland qualifiers draw with lower grade team has automatic home advantage.

Motion 10 is carried and will be sent to All Ireland Congress

Result of All Ireland Congress vote: Derek Kent, Dermot Howlin, Joe O’Shaughnessy elected

Result of Leinster convention vote: Margaret Doyle, Joe O’Shaughnessy Breda Jacob Noel O’Keefe elected.
