Wexford lost the Walsh Cup final to Dublin in Croke Park on a score line of 1-22 to 1-12.
Dublin led from start to finish and despite a major effort by the players we never seemed to come to grips with their tactics of extra defenders and lots of space created then in our half of the field.
Our attacks were crowded out or players were under pressure shhoting while Dublin cunterattecked quickly and foud players in spce and picked off their point well.
Our attacks were crowded… out or players were under pressure shooting while Dublin counterattacked quickly and found players in space and picked off their point well.
We did create goal chances, 4 in the first half alone, but the goalkeeper saved 3 of them while Dee O’Keefe’s shot was cleared off the line.
There was only two points between the sides coming up to half time but a burst of scores from Dublin left a mountain to climb. At half time it was 11 points to 0-4.
The second half was even for a time then Dublin pulled further ahead. A high ball into their square was chased by Liam Óg who leaped high, caught the ball, turned and blasted to the net. We had a quick wide but then Dublin hit two points and then the killer blow when with their only goal chance of the game they netted for 3 more points.
Wexford kept fighting and picked off some nice scores having missed chances earlier.
We had a lot of the possession during the game and a lot of effort by the players but we came undone by better tactics.
Next up in two weeks time in the National Hurling League Div 1B game away to Limerick under lights.
Our college players will again be available to us on that occasion but the Oulart players will not be available then.
