Saturday 25th of August was National Hurling Academy squad day. Wexford entered 2 teams in each competition U14 – Tony Forristal/Sonny Walsh National Tournament U15 Tipperary supporters club Arrabawn National tournament and U16 Michael Foley Cross Provincial tournament.
The U15 A team lost to Laois after an 8 goal thriller but went on to beat Kilkenny in the Shield play off final with a great display. The B team Won out their division with impressive wins over Kerry in the semi-final and Clare in the final.
The U16 Michael Foley Tournament was hosted by Wexford GAA in the Halo tiles Centre of Excellence, This year saw a new format where Tipperary, Waterford and Down were included with Dublin and Laois entering the Munster based tournament.
Both Wexford teams did extremely well with the B team putting in some impressive performances to reach the Division 1 shield final loosing out to a very strong Kildare team 2-7 to 0-6. The A team had a slow start to the tournament but stormed into the Knock out stages beating Kilkenny 1-10 to 1-7 in the semi-final and playing out an extra time thriller with Tipperary to win the Division 1 final 2-12 to 0-17, the strength of character was great for Wexford to come from behind twice to win in a very dramatic and entertaining game.
The division 2 title was keenly contested with very close games throughout Wicklow ran out the winners beating Meath 2-9 to 2-7 in the final.
